The latest promotion from Yahoo Music lets users download Modmaker, an application for remaking animated music videos.

"I never said all actors are cattle; what I said was all actors should be treated like cattle."
-- film director Alfred Hitchcock

Little digitized animated musicians will be playthings in the hands of budding music video directors. Courtesy of Yahoo Artist Mods, a joint effort with graphics processor maker Nvidia, users can download the Modmaker and remake videos with a high level of control.

Two videos - Disturbed's "Just Stop" and Tommy Lee's "Good Times" - can be downloaded as artist mods, which are animated versions of the original videos. With the Modmaker software, users can change wardrobes, camera angles, lighting, and scenery to remake the videos to suit their visions. Users can share their creations by email, too.

Yahoo only plans to make five artist mods available for this promotion, the company said in a statement. Artists Sean Paul and Lil' Wayne will get an upcoming mod treatment, with the fifth artist yet to be named.

Getting those little mods to grimace in a more artistic way requires more than just downloading the software. The hardware requirements for the computer itself are relatively modest, but users will need a graphics processor that does 3D hardware acceleration. 64 MB is the minimum, but 128 MB is recommended.
