TiVo plans to let customers download TV shows via the Internet before the shows hit TV. I wonder how this will play with the MPAA and other groups warring against those who circulate the material before the TV release.
The first TV channel in on the deal is the Independent Film Channel, better known as IFC. They will pump their programming through a broadband connection. Whether or not this "content on demand" process will work in this format will be the big test here.
As broadband becomes more widespread, Internet hookups are expected to be one venue people will get their TV programming from and with News Corp buying Blinkx, a video search engine, one can only conclude this format is on its way in, one way or another.
