The highly (or not so) anticipated Sony PSP was released in the United States last week, and apparently sales are not quite what Sony was expecting.
Although the reviews of the device have been primarily solid, according to some reports, sales are for the PSP are not what were anticipated. A report by WBAL Channel reveals:
A retail survey reports that only a third of the 150 stores nationwide that carry the new PlayStation have sold out.
Most stores report that they have many on hand, and some said they have as many as 100 still on the shelves.
As for reasons why sales have been slower than expected, only speculation can provide answers. Perhaps the $250 price tag is scaring some away. Or it could be the entire genre of portable gaming may not be as popular as it once was. However, with the amount of people using mobile devices increasing daily, there is obviously a market for such a gadget.
In order to compensate for this, one can expect Sony to retune their marketing approach just in time for the upcoming holiday season (it's not as far as you think).
