Consumer electronic giant Sony has announced their plans to release software that would allow television broadcasts played at home to be accessed by notebook computers, via the web.

The International Herald Tribune reports the software would facilitate "place shifting", which allows users to access content from remote locations, through the use of networks. Sony plans on including these capabilities with Sony's handheld gaming device, the PSP.

As of now, Sony has not divulged when the software would be available, or how much it would retail for. Although, North America is the first region expected to receive the package.

The PSP is tentatively scheduled for an early spring release in the US.
