Yahoo Tinkers With Music Engine

An upgraded version of the Yahoo Music Engine boosts the functionality of the
product so users can more easily create playlists and share them with others.
Yahoo didn't take very long to integrate its purchase of playlist sharing site Webjay with its Music Engine. The company sees sharing playlists as a vital piece of its recent update to the Music Engine.
"Our new innovations focused on providing users the essential tools for better personalization and community, as well as the ability to have their playlists available to them wherever they are," Dave Goldberg, head of Yahoo Music, said in a statement.
Yahoo also improved the portability syncing aspect of the Music Engine. They have taken the hint from digital music market leader iTunes, supporting drag and drop transfers of music to portable players.
Yahoo's Music Engine primarily works with players that utilize Windows DRM schemes, but can move MP3 or AAC files to some older iPod models like the Mini and the third and fourth generation 20GB iPod models.
Placeshifting has a place with the Music Engine too. Users can stream music from
a PC to a supported network music device. The Music Engine can automatically detect
those devices on a network.
Currently, Yahoo lists support for the D-Link DSM-320, the Roku SoundBridge and
Roku SoundBridge Radio. Tracks imported into the Music Engine can be shifted to
those devices for playback, as well as the Netgear MP101 and MP115, Philips Streamium
SL300i, and the Roku PhotoBridge.
