Makes IBM Veteran VP Silicon Design By
John Stith
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced on Wednesday the hiring of Jeff VerHeul
for the job of corporate vice president of silicon design for AMD. He will lead
the development of all future AMD computing solutions, including silicon roadmaps
and design efforts across all of AMD's global engineering sites.
VerHeul spent 25 years at IBM, most recently leading the Engineering and Technology
Services business.
"Jeff brings a wealth of experience in managing large, complex design activities
at both the chip and systems level," said Dirk Meyer, president and Chief Operating
Officer, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD. "His technical leadership skills,
business experience and customer skills will serve AMD well as we continue to
broaden our customer base and work to create innovative solutions that enable
their success."
This is a big move for AMD particularly since they continue to carve out their
niche in the market. AMD is also embroiled in legal battles with Intel, claiming
Intel used their position to lock AMD out of the market place by threats, bribes
and other coercion. The case is currently being investigated by the U.S. and European
and Japanese governments. About
