Hello from freezing Kentucky. Hope all is well with you all. And I hope it isn't as cold for you as it is here. Enough about the bitter cold. Welcome back for another exciting installment of HTE.

This week, we are getting back to the product spotlight, and, imo, we have some really awesome tech toys for you to read about. If there is one thing I have learned doing this newsletter, it is that competition amongst these tech giants is fierce. Every successful release is countered (copied?) by competing companys. Because of this, it is easy to see that technological plateaus are very hard to achieve. Everything keeps getting bigger (or smaller) and better.

Hopefully, this issue helps illustrate this point vividly. One of the most competitive technological fields is the gaming industry. Don't blink, or you might miss a new release for the gaming community. Not just games either, gaming hardware is being made seemingly on an assembly line. Items just keep churning out. Keeping with this theme, Sony and Nintendo have introduced new "consoles" for the portable gaming field. Looks like we as consumers will continue to have plenty of choices when it comes to making a purchase.

That, my friends, is the reason why we should be encouraging new technology. More choice, and high prices don't stay that way. The JVC HD camcorder is a good example of this. Be sure and read up on it. What was once a $50,000 expense has lowered to a more manageable $4000. This is what makes constantly evolving technology a great thing. It gives us all many more choices than we once had.

Enjoy the issue and stay warm. ;)

Sony PSP
Sony's Handheld Game Console

Another HTE, another Sony product review/preview. :) This time, Sony has set their powerful sights on the handheld gaming market.

Introducing the Sony PSP, an "NGage" like gaming unit, without the cell phone features. This little baby boasts a 16x9 widescreen, 24-bit full color, 480x272 pixel screen. Indeed. Nothing like having widescreen capability in the palm of your hand.

Like most portable Sony products, the console's game saving capability comes from the Memory Stick. The graphics "engine" on the PSP is a whopping (for its size) 2MB eDRAM with a 256 bus. Pretty impressive.

Unfortunatley, Sony has only had press kits come out about this, so there is no site page from Sony to link to. You can always google search if you need more info. Also, the street date hasn't been annouced yet, so keep your ears open.

Nintendo's Reply
Nintendo Releases Info On Upcoming Handheld

Not to be outdone, Nintendo has released information about its new handheld gaming console. Called the Nintendo DS for now, the Mario boys are attempting to reset the standard in handheld gaming. They are designing DS to have 2 gaming screens. You heard me right, 2 gaming screens.

The information on the DS is limited right now, so be sure and go on over to Nintendo's site and read their press release. Here is a quote concerning the dual monitors:

"players can look forward to being able to manage their game progress from two different perspectives, enhancing both the speed and strategy of the challenge. For example in a soccer game, users can view the whole game on one screen while simultaneously focusing on an individual soccer player's tackle or goal on the other screen. "

Sounds promising.

Sanyo's "Bone" Phone
Sonic Speakers, Anyone?

In Japan (and only Japan for now), Sanyo has introduced a phone that conducts sound through bone. You place the phone on your jawbone or on top or on the side of your head, and the phone vibrates the bones in that area. The vibrations travel down the bone to the inner-ear, and hearing occurs.

The technology, called bone conduction, has been around for a few years, but this is the first appearance in the cell phone world. As I said before, the technology is only available in Asia, for now. But you know how things go, if the demand is high enough, items will find their way into your market. Just for proof's sake, I will link the site for you, but if you can't read Japanese calligraphy, you'll have a hard time understanding the content. :)

JVC's JY-HD10U
Digital HD Camcorder (Not Just For WETA anymore)

JVC has introduced Hi-Def recording for the home user. No longer do you have to pay over $30,000 for Hi-Def capability(unless you want to, of course).

ALL IN HI-DEFENITION. That thought alone makes me a tingly inside. Be sure to check out JVC's product site for this puppy. If you are a gadget geek, you may find instant rapture. :)
